Title: Examining environmental factors for r- versus k- selected species in an increasingly changeable environment.

Importance: Scallops in France's Bay of Biscay and on Georges Bank live long enough to have at least one favorable breeding event - for example to make sure there are enough adults to await the next favorable event, whether a gyre that returns eggs and larvae to the habitat, or a major storm that cleans and prepares the sea floor for larval settlement. Gaining a better understanding of the relationship of life history to breeding events would have great value to managers of living natural resources, especially if unpredictable event, such as floods, fires, and major storms, become more frequent.
